Summer Reading 2012 – Dream Big … Read!

Beginning June 27, children and adults can sign up for the Hollis Social Library’s Summer Reading Programs. Register online at home, or come to the Pancake Lunch Summer Reading Kick-Off from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. June 27, the Lawrence Barn.

The library has programs for grade 1, grades 2-5, and grades 6-12, and an adult program for anyone 18 and older.

Sign-up to win prizes all summer simply by reading.

The library will be hosting free programs and performers all summer such as Tracy Kane the Fairy House Lady, Go for the Stars Robots, Critters N’ Creatures Animals Shows, and more. Informational, craft and story time programs will also be offered for children, teens and adults. Stop into the library to get a brochure.

Night Images
of Hollis Photo Contest

Be a part of Teen Summer Reading 2012 by entering the Teen Photo Contest. The theme is “Night Images of Hollis.” The contest is open to teens going into grades 6-12, and prizes will be awarded for first and second place.

Submission must be your own work; the photo must have a night theme, and be taken someplace in Hollis.

Submit hard copies of photos, 8×10 inches and matted to 11×14 inches. If matting is too expensive, contact Miss Amanda.

Photographs may be black and white, sepia or full color. They can be traditional photography or digitally manipulated images. One person can enter up to three photographs.

Supply your name, email address, phone number, age and mailing address on the back of the matted photograph. Please name all of your artwork.

Entries must be newly created original work of entrant, must not infringe upon third-party rights, and cannot violate any copyright laws or existing trademarks.

The design cannot have unintelligible wording, obscene or offensive language or imagery.

Submit each photograph to Miss Amanda or Library Director Lucinda Mazza no later than June 29.

All entrants must attend the Artist Reception on July 11 at 6:30 p.m. to be eligible for prizes. If you cannot make it, contact Miss Amanda.

All artwork will be displayed in the Library Meeting Room from July 1-Aug. 10.

Artwork will be returned. All entrants must pick up entries in the Children’s Room from Aug. 10-17.

Summer Reading Library volunteers needed

The Hollis Social Library is in need of volunteers for its Summer Reading Program beginning June 27.

People 14 and older are needed to help prepare and run programs this summer for children. Help is needed for:

? Pancake Lunch Kick-Off June 27 – Volunteers are needed to make and serve pancakes, play outdoor games with the children, and do simple fun crafts with children indoors, and sign children up.

? All Tuesday Summer Stories and Crafts – Volunteers are needed to help cut out story time crafts, read stories, and run craft table after stories.

? Harry Potter Birthday Party July 31 – Volunteers are needed to help set up and organize, make food, and help out with games and crafts.

? All Friday Baby Yoga Classes – A volunteer(s) is needed who loves babies and has some knowledge of the subject.

? Ice Cream Social Aug. 20 – Volunteers are needed to help scoop ice cream and toppings.
