Friends fulfill longtime dream by opening gym in Hollis

HOLLIS – Fitness wasn’t always Sharon Saucier’s thing.

But now, the local woman who first started weight training after becoming a mother 25 years ago, has opened a gym.

Saucier and her business partner, Kevin Boyle, also of Hollis, opened Fit 4 All on Old Runnels Bridge Road off Route 111, in March.

Saucier said opening her own gym was a dream since training herself for years and becoming a personal trainer by trade about 10 years ago.

While she worked for Planet Fitness in Nashua for a few years, Saucier said she soon realized she didn’t enjoy the corporate world.

“My best customer is going to be one that comes here, loves it and tells a friend,” Saucier said.

“I believe business should be mutually beneficial. It hasn’t made me rich in money yet, but it has made me rich in friends.”

Members of Fit 4 All will benefit from her business beliefs, Saucier said, through free training to anyone who joins, free water and areas for children to play while parents workout.

Saucier and Boyle met five years ago at a gym. They started talking and soon realized they each created a business plan for a fitness facility as part of a college project years earlier.

“We forgot all about that dream,” Saucier said.

They forgot it, that is, until they met each other.

About six months ago, the pair started considering opening a gym.

Saucier said they were looking for a smaller facility than their Old Runnels Bridge Road location, but when they saw the building, they fell in love and changed their business plan to fit the space.

Now, visitors to the gym can use the many free weights, weight machines and cardio equipment throughout the main area of the facility, as well as take advantage of a 25-minute weight training circuit Saucier designed.

Another area is scattered with small trampolines and steps, set up for Zumba classes and other aerobics.

Outside the workout space is a sitting area with wireless Internet, movies and video games to entertain children.

The building is on an old golf course, and the facility will also have an outdoor running and walking trail.

Saucier said she hates running but is thinking about organizing and participating in a couch to 5K running program for members this summer.

However, while she has many ideas for improving the facility in the future, Saucier said recruiting more members is her current focus. Business has been relatively slow, which Saucier attributed to the gym’s location.

Still, she said she hopes word of mouth will help bring more locals to the gym, and she believes the facility can give visitors more services than gyms farther away in Nashua.

Saucier said she is confident business will improve.

“It’s been a dream … every single person that has walked through this door is nice,” she said.

Because of the relationships she and Boyle already are beginning to form with gym members, Saucier said they are prepared to work to make the gym exactly what visitors want it to be.

“I was a trainer and I was afraid to go into a gym,” she said.

“I just want happy clients who actually have success.”

A grand opening event has not been scheduled but likely will be held soon after the walking trail is completed.
