Hollis celebrates 62nd Strawberry Festival

The Hollis Woman’s Club and Hollis Town Band hosted the 62nd annual Strawberry Festival on June 24.

About 10 vendors sold various crafts, jewelry and artwork. Children enjoyed games and face-painting and other activities.

But, the main feature was lots of strawberry sundaes or strawberry shortcakes, all made with local products.

Lull Farm and Brookdale Fruit Farm provided the strawberries, Noreen Polus said, and Doc Davis, of Pepperell, Mass., provided ice cream.

Polus, co-chair of the event with Lori Dwyer, said the Strawberry Festival celebrates everything she has grown to love about the town.

“As you drive through town, you can see the apple orchards and the fields,” she said. “Hollis is truly an agricultural center. And what’s amazing is that it’s right at the border of Nashua.”

This year, in addition to Woman’s Club and a performance by the Hollis Town Band, Hollis Brookline High School students, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts helped at the event.

Proceeds from the event helped fund scholarships to Hollis Brookline High School graduates, and to a local woman interested in returning to college to further her education. Proceeds also go to a number of regional charities.
