Hurd, Marshall on display

The Hollis Art Society will host an exhibit of watercolorist Pat Hurd and photographer Roxanne Marshall through July at RE/Max Properties at 2 Ash St., Hollis.

An artist reception takes place from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, July 12, when guests will have the opportunity to meet the artists. Cocktails and hor’dourves also will be available. Following the presentation of their artwork, the Art as a Form of Healing Display also will be open to the public from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

“The society began with a group of women artists who lived in Hollis,” said Hurd, president of the Hollis Art Society. The Hollis Art Society now has members from throughout the area.

Hollis Art Society member are gearing up for the fifth anniversary celebration Sept. 22, including music and art exhibit. The anniversary, which will take place at Lawrence Barn, 28 Depot Road, in Hollis, includes a benefit concert featuring Ed Mottau, Bob Drew and Jimmy Clark. Mollau has been performing for 40 years and has toured with John Lennon and Yoko Ono.

Hollis Art Society members are selling tickets for the Sept. 22 celebration for $20 each; 5 percent of the proceeds will go to poets and artists and other philanthropic causes. This year, proceeds will be used to help veterans relocate their homes and to help them buy small appliances. The fifth anniversary celebration will include sculptors, potters and artists, as well as a silent auction.
