Elks scholarships available

NASHUA – Applications are available for high school seniors to apply for a scholarship award in the Elks National Foundation’s annual “Most Valuable Student” contest. Five hundred four-year awards for the 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years, ranging from $1,000-$15,000 per year for a total of $2,296,000, will be awarded nationwide to the highest-rated boys and girls in the 2011 competition.

Applicants will be judged on the basis of financial need, leadership and scholarship.

Scholarship applications will be available from the guidance departments of area high schools, from the Steward at the Nashua Lodge of Elks on Daniel Webster Highway South or from Lodge Scholarship Chairman, Past District Deputy Albert W. Savage, 86 Robinson Road, Nashua.

Applications also may be downloaded at www.elks.org/enf/scholars or obtained by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to the Elks National Foundation, 2750 N. Lakeview Ave., Chicago, IL 60614. Deadline for return of applications is Dec. 1.

The New Hampshire State Elks Association Scholarship Committee also is making available several thousands of dollars in one-year awards to students applying to the above for the academic year 2010-2011.

Thirty-three Nashua area students benefited last year by receiving more than $24,000 in Elks scholarships. Area residents should make sure all worthy students are aware of this scholarship offer.
