Michelle G. Hockman

Michelle Ann (Garruto) Hockman, 58, died April 28, 2010 at her home surrounded by her family and friends after a lengthy bout with cancer.

She was born March 31, 1952 in Binghamton, New York to Ann Marie (Guidici) Garruto and the late Dominic Paul Garruto. She was raised and schooled in Binghamton, New York. She graduated from the Alfred University (NY) School of Nursing, and then moved to Boston, Massachusetts where she worked for Tufts-New England Medical Center and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute before moving to New Hampshire to become the first dedicated cardiology nurse at the Elliot Hospital. She was an integral part of the opening the first cardiac catheterization laboratory in Manchester. She then worked in the post anesthesia care unit at the Elliot Hospital.

She then left the Elliot Hospital and became a Certified Nurse Case Manager, opening her own successful case management business, Northeast Cost Containment. She later worked in the post anesthesia care unit of the Catholic Medical Center.

A member of St. Elizabeth Seton Church, she is remembered as loving running, golf, and spending time with family and friends.

Her family includes her husband, Richard P. Hockman, MD of Bedford; two daughters, Sarah (Dudley) Ball of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Kristen Dudley of Manchester, Connecticut; four stepchildren, Terri Byerly of Londonderry, Lianne Lambert of Phoenix, Arizona, James Hockman of Lowell, MA and Eric Hockman of Woodbury, Minnesota; a sister, Mrs. Annette Purdy of Vestal, NY; her mother, Mrs. Ann Garruto; five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday, May 5th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Goodwin Funeral Home, 607 Chestnut St. The funeral Liturgy will be on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 190 Meeting House Road, Bedford. Burial will be in Bedford Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Animal Rescue League of NH , 545 Route 101, Bedford, NH 03110.
