Barbara A. (Gibbons) Jackson

MILFORD, NH – Barbara A. (Gibbons) Jackson, 84, resident of Milford, NH, died September 22, 2010 at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, Nashua, NH.

She was born in Nashua on December 15, 1925, a daughter of the late John J. and Louisa (Dummett) Gibbons. Barbara was raised and educated in Milford, graduating from Milford High School, Class of 1943 where she was captain of the Girls basketball team. She later graduated from Houle’s Beauty Academy, Manchester, NH.

Barbara was a longtime resident of Milford and had formerly lived in Manchester for a number of years.

She owned and operated Barbara’s Beauty Salon in Milford for many years.

Barbara was active in town politics, served on the School Budget Committee, was a member of the Church of Our Saviour and Harley Sanford Post #4368 Ladies Auxiliary.

She enjoyed boating, gardening and dancing. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother and most especially loved spending time with her family.

Barbara will be remembered as a woman of boundless energy, proud of her Irish heritage and always a champion of the underdog.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara L. Jackson.

Family members include three daughters, Patricia Currier of Milford, NH, Diana Wollen of Bennington, NH and Wendy Ciarci of Granby, CT; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother, William H. Gibbons of Manchester, NH; a sister, Eileen Ricard of Nashua, NH; many nieces and nephews.

Memorial visiting hours are Friday, September 24th from 5:00-7:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am in the Church of Our Saviour, 10 Amherst Street, Milford. Burial will follow in Meadowview Cemetery, Amherst, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Home Health & Hospice Care, Community Hospice House, Attn: Development, 22 Prospect Street, Nashua, NH 03060.
