Joseph L. Swiezynski II

Joseph Ludwig Swiezynski, II, 65, longtime resident of Amherst, NH, died Monday, April 25, 2011, at Kindred Hospital Boston North Shore in Peabody, MA after a prolonged illness, surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born in Charleston, SC to Joseph “Joe the Barber” Swiezynski and Margaret (Robinson) Swiezynski. Joe was raised and educated in Milford, NH and graduated from Bishop Bradley High School (now Trinity High School), Manchester, NH. He attended Wentworth Institute in Boston, MA and the University of New Hampshire in Durham for engineering.

Joe was an engineer, entrepreneur and inventor, contributing to such projects as NIKE X, CT Scan, Car-Track program. This extensive work history offered fertile ground for starting many of his own businesses ranging from Margaret’s Pizza, Profile Construction, to Multi-Tek, Inc. and IBEC, Inc. He later moved on to real estate development, delivering such projects as Ashley Commons, Nottingham Place and Straws Point. By the early 1990s he was securing financing to resolve challenging work outs and turnarounds for New England families and businesses.

Joe was a great athlete and amazing coach. At 16, he took his first coaching position with a men’s baseball league in Milford, NH. Although he continued to play sports and even went on to be a house racquetball champion at Hampshire Hills in the ’70s and ’80s, coaching was what he truly loved. He spent countless hours coaching football, basketball, baseball and softball for the Amherst Recreation Program, Nashua Catholic Junior High, NHIAA and Trinity High School and with these teams achieved many championships. His greatest victory was the positive impact he had on the lives of his players.

He will be best remembered for his love of family, sense of humor and his passion for politics and will be greatly missed by all those who loved and knew him.

Family members include his wife, Katherine A. Deware; his children, Beverly Swiezynski Yuksel, her husband Boris, and grandchildren Tucker and Logan, of Bedford, NH and Patrick S. Deware, his wife Annmarie, and grandchildren Grace, Braeden, and Séamus of Haverhill, MA; a brother, Michael H. Swiezynski of Somersworth, NH; a sister, Darlene Goodin of North, SC; one niece and three nephews.
