Harland Savage

Harland Savage, 89, of Wilton, NH, died July 13, 2011 at the Kindred Hospital in North Peabody, Mass. He was born in Lancaster, NH on June 27, 1922. He was the son of Herman and Alice (Cummings) Savage. He worked as a Shaker and colonial box maker and owned the Fryes Measure Mill in Wilton for many years.

Harland served in the Army Air Force in Borham, England, where he worked on the airfields during WWII. He was a past Grand Master of the State of NH Oddfellows, and an active participant in his town including working on the budget committee and leading 4H youth groups. He was a long-time member of the League of NH Craftsmen Association, and represented New Hampshire at “Man and his World,” the World’s Fair in Montreal in 1971. He was also a skilled and avid golfer and was known for winning the Monadnock Country Club’s senior tournament.

Harland is survived by his wife Thelma (Gray) Savage of Wilton, NH; 2 sons, Harley Savage and his wife Pam of Wilton, NH, Ralph Savage and his wife Maryanne of Florida; 1 daughter, Carol Conklin of Augusta, ME; 6 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by 10 brothers and sisters of various ages, of which he was the youngest.

Calling hours, and a celebration of Harland’s life were held Sunday, July 17, 2011 from 2-4. Burial will be in the Johnson corner cemetery in Lyndeborough, NH, following the services.

The arrangements are in the care of the Michaud Funeral Home, 32 Maple St., Wilton, NH.
