The Rev. Glen C. Bachelder

The Rev. Glen C. Bachelder died peacefully on October 10, 2011 with his family by his side. Glen was born in Manchester, NH on May 19, 1925, the son of Charles H. and Gladys (Jones) Bachelder. His growing up years were spent in NH until the family moved to Massachusetts during his senior year of high school.

Glen served his country proudly as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He graduated in 1954 from Boston University with a Bachelor of Music degree. During that time he served several churches as Organist/Choir Director while also working as a pipe organ builder and technician. He then received a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in 1961 and was ordained into the ministry that same year. Over the years he pastored churches in Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey and New Hampshire. He served as pastor of the First Baptist Church in Milford, NH from 1967 to 1979. Following his retirement in 1993, Glen served for many years as interim pastor at several churches throughout New England, continuing his life’s work of leading people to know and love Jesus Christ as Savior. Glen was also a charter member of the Pickwick Club, a group of retired ministers from NH and VT who meet monthly.

Glen was predeceased by Sunnie (Valerius) Bachelder, his wife of 46 years.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Claire (Eichhorn) Bachelder; his son, Brian Bachelder and wife, Goldie of Milford, NH; daughter, Christina Medlyn and husband, Edward of Milford, NH; daughter, Rebecca Tripp and husband, Paul of Amherst, NH; son, Todd Bachelder and wife, Marion of Boca Raton, FL; stepson, Harry Callesis of Atlanta, GA; stepdaughter, Jennifer Callesis of Rutland, VT; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

There are no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 21st at 10:00 am in the Milford United Methodist Church, 327 North River Road, Milford. A private burial with military honors will be in Riverside Cemetery, Milford. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Wycliffe Bible Translators, P.O.
