Margaret ‘Peg’ Van Dine

Margaret “Peg” Van Dine, 88, died Wednesday December 21, 2011 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta, Maine. Peg was born February 8, 1923 in Madison, Maine to William and Glendora Clark Jardine. Peg grew up in Madison and graduated from Madison High School in the class of 1941. She graduated from Colby Junior College in New London, NH with an Associate Degree in Science. Peg applied her degree to pursuing a career as a Lab Technician at North Conway Memorial. Three years after meeting Norman Van Dine at North Conway Memorial, where she attended to a friend of his in a ski accident, they decided to be wed on June 27, 1947.

Peg was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Along with spending time with friends, participating in the local garden club, and ever-improving her tennis game – a great source of joy in her life was surrounding herself with youth. Peg dedicated her time to Child and Family Services as a counselor providing support and empowering young un-wed mothers. In Amherst, NH, Peg volunteered her time with the Parent Teacher Association theater group, and was a troop leader for the local Girl Scout organization. They lived in Amherst, NH for 26 years before moving to Nobleboro, Maine in 1989.

Peg was a member of the Women’s Club of Damariscotta and Bristol, Miles Memorial Hospital League, Skidompha Book Club and was an avid tennis player at the CLC YMCA in Damariscotta. Peg enjoyed sailing with Norm and made many sailing trips to the Caribbean. In Maine, Peg enjoyed friends old and new and relished in visits from her daughters’ families and grandchildren. Peg was a beloved woman who lived her long life with grace and warmth. Peg was predeceased by a brother, Donald R. Jardine.

Peg is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Norman Van Dine of Nobleboro, ME; Daughters: Gretchen Hutchinson and her husband Kim of Troy, NH; Karen Di Marcello and her husband Austin of Camarillo, CA; Grandchildren: Erik Hutchinson of Franklin, MA; Erin Hutchinson of Dublin, NH; Azzurra Di Marcello of New York, NY; Bianca Di Marcello of Los Angeles, CA; Great grandchildren: Ella and Conor Hutchinson of Franklin, MA.

A service to celebrate Peg’s life will be held 2 p.m. Thursday January 5, 2012 at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main Street, Waldoboro, Maine. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Madison, Maine.
