Richard G. Blackmar

TILTON, NH – Richard G. Blackmar, 86, resident of Tilton, NH, died March 1, 2012 at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton.

He was born in Haverhill, MA on October 20, 1925, a son of Horace and Alice (Murphy) Blackmar.

Mr. Blackmar resided at the NH Veterans Home for a short time and formerly lived in Hillsborough for 10 years and the Milford area for many years.

A self-employed painter for most of his life, he also trained harness horses at Rockingham Park.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and also loved reading.

Mr. Blackmar was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran of World War II. He participated in the battle against the enemy at Guadulcanal and Okinawa and was wounded. He was awarded numerous citations and medals, including the Purple Heart. Mr. Blackmar was honorably discharged on February 5, 1946.

He was predeceased by his first wife Grace (Croke) Blackmar, who died in 1976 and second wife Barbara Pihl, two sons, Jack McCormack and Terrence McCormack.

Family members include three sons, David McCormack of Burlington, NY, James McCormack of Greenfield, NH and Gary Blackmar of Milford, NH; three daughters, Sharon Chase of Hillsborough, NH, Madilyn Gonio of Burlington, NY and Joan Delage of Milford, NH; 14 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren.

There are no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the New Hampshire Veterans Home, 139 Winter Street, Tilton, NH 03276-5415.
