Arlene George

MILFORD, NH – Arlene George, 89, longtime resident of Milford, NH, died on August 15, 2017 at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, Nashua, NH.

She was born in Manchester, NH on May 8, 1928, a daughter of Parker and Hazel (Adams) Bailey. Arlene was raised and educated in Bedford, NH and graduated from West High School and earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire. She made her home in Milford for more than 55 years.

Arlene had been employed as a substitute teacher for the Milford School District for many years.

She was a longtime member of The First Congregational Church of Milford and was active in the Women’s Club and Laura G. Heald Club. In addition, Arlene was a member of the Milford Garden Club, the Capt. Josiah Crosby Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. And was a 4-H leader for many years.

She was a loving mother and devoted grandmother whose greatest joy came from spending time with her family.

Arlene was predeceased by her husband, Ernest A. George, who died in 1998 and a brother, Edward A. Bailey, who died in 2006.

Family members include two sons and daughters-in-law, Lawrence R. George and Diane Dalamangas of Goffstown, NH, James A. and Janell George of Milford, NH; two daughters, Susan L. Cummings of Milford, NH and Carol G. Farley of Leeds, AL; four grandchildren, Ryan George and his wife, Aubrey George, Christine Cummings, Anna Launh and her husband, Ratana Launh, and Adrianna George; many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours were on Monday, August 21st from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in The First Congregational Church of Milford, UCC, 10 Union Street, Milford. Burial was held in Riverside Cemetery, Milford. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Capt. Josiah Crosby Chapter, DAR, P.O. Box 434, Amherst, NH 03031 or to the Dulac Land Trust c/o Phil Menard, 247 Mechanic Street, Laconia, NH 03246.
