Alice M. Smith

MILFORD – Alice M. Smith, 86, resident of Milford, NH died July 2, 2018 at the Elms Care and Rehabilitation Center, Milford.

She was born in North Troy, Vermont on February 24, 1932, a daughter of Fred and Bernice Ladue.

Alice was raised and educated in Windsor, VT and graduated from Windsor High School, Class of 1950. She made her home in Milford for more than 50 years.

She had worked as a waitress for several local eateries, including the Corner Luncheonette, the Oval Restaurant, Milford Diner, Claire’s Restaurant and John & Jackie’s Bakery.

Alice enjoyed watching the Red Sox, Patriots, All In The Family and Dallas. In addition, she also enjoyed going out to eat at Hayward Farms Restaurant and visiting with Bette and Dick Mace. She loved bowling, playing cards and was a member of several bowling leagues and top bowler for the Milford Girls League. Alice and Charlie displayed a passion for dancing, much to the delight of everyone watching. They enjoyed dinners, dances and trips with their group of wonderful friends, The Ding-A-Lings. She crafted several cross stitch pieces, which were proudly displayed throughout her home.

Alice was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, Milford and a member of the Catholic Women’s Club. While living in Vermont, she was a member of the Junior Catholic Daughters.

Her favorite pastime was sitting in the sun in her rocking chair on the porch at her home. Alice will be remembered for her walks into town to pay her telephone and light bill with her purse tucked under her arm. Alice and Charlie spent their last several summers together on Mt. Desert Island in Maine, where they entertained family and guests in their log home on the water.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, Charles J. Smith; and a daughter, Gayle Whittmore.

Family members include her son, Gregory C. Smith of Brewer, ME; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two brothers, James Ladue of Rutland, VT, Phillip Ladue and his wife Bonnie of Windsor, VT; two sisters, Marion Roberts of Ascutney, VT and Linda Fleming and her husband David of Alfred, ME; her sister-in-law, Virginia Farnsworth of Bar Harbor, ME; several nieces and nephews; and her many friends, including the Kelly and Grella Families and Rosalie French.

There are no calling hours. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 7th at 10:00 am in St. Patrick’s Church (church hall), 34 Amherst Street, Milford. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Milford. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Share Outreach, Inc., 1 Columbus Avenue, Milford, NH 03055.
