Col. Edward F. McCabe (Ret.)

Col. Edward F. McCabe, 92, of Brookline, NH died peacefully at the Florida Hospital East in Orlando, on Saturday, May 21, 2011 following a brief illness.

He was surrounded by his family.

He was born on April 15, 1919 in Waltham, MA, son of the late Francis J. and Edna M. (VanDemark) McCabe.

He was the widower of Helen (Flaherty) McCabe, who died on April 20, 1995. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a daughter, Deirdre (McCabe) Boothby and his sister, Marilyn Ruggiero.

Col. McCabe was a World War II and Korean War veteran of the United States Army. He was awarded the Silver Star and Legion of Merit.

Following his retirement from the Army, he was a professor at St. Leo College, and a teacher and head of the Math Department at Milford High School.

Among his many interests, he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He loved playing golf with the “Old Bucks” at the Buckmeadow Golf Course, was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed numerous outdoor activities.

Following his graduation from Waltham High School, he attended Tufts University and graduated from West Point Military Academy, Class of June 1943 and later received his Master’s degree from Harvard University. He was also a member of the West Point Alumni Association and the Harvard University Alumni Association.

Survivors include his daughters and their spouses, Patricia McCabe and her husband, Robert Bedford of Beavercreek, Ohio, Ann (McCabe) Miles and her husband David of Virginia Beach, VA, Katharine McCabe of Davis, CA and Kristen (McCabe) Lorden and her husband Dana, of Hollis. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Luke and Myles Cathey, Noah Miles, Kasey, Trevor, Alexandra, Caroline and Sam Lorden as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

SERVICES: Visiting hours will be held at the DAVIS FUNERAL HOME, One Lock St., Nashua on Tuesday from 5-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Parish of the Resurrection, 449 Broad St., Nashua on Wednesday morning at Eleven o’clock. Interment prayers, Military honors and burial will be held at the West Point Military Academy Cemetery on Thursday at 1:30 PM.
