Francis J. Dougherty Sr.

Dougherty, Sr. Francis J. “Gramps” 83 of Hernando, Fl. Passed away July 24, 2013 while under the care of Hospice of Citrus Co. and his loving Family.

A native of Mahanoy Plane, Pa., he came to the area in 1999 from Brookline, N.H. after he retired from the Paper Mill Industry.

Mr. Dougherty served our country in the U.S. Navy for 4 years and was a Lifetime member of the Tin Can Sailors. He was a Mason and his Shrine membership was to the Bektash Temple in Concord, N.H. and in 1992 the Northeast Shrine. In 1996, after completing 4 years of training at the Shrine Clown College with his daughter Vanessa, both graduated with a “General Art of Shrine Clowning” with Francis also being known as “Gramps” and Vanessa being known as “Daizee” as Members of The International Shrine Clown Association.

After coming to the area Francis became an avid player with the Beverly Hills Shuffle Board Group and was a member of St. Scholastica Church. Other memberships include the Moose Lodge and VFW Post #4368.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years Margaret; 6 children Roseanna Dube of Mason, N.H. Vanessa Edwards of Hernando, Fl. Francis J. Dougherty, Jr. of Brookline, N.H. Paul Dougherty of Derry, N.H. Owen Dougherty of Pepperell, Mass. And Timothy Dougherty of Concord, N.H.; 2 brothers, Thomas of Harrisburg, Pa. and James of Herkimer, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Scholastica Church, 4301 W Homosassa Trail, Lecanto, FL 34461 Saturday Aug. 3 2013 at 10:00 am and interment will follow at Fero Memorial.
