Rosemary Haughton Hunt Todd

Rosemary Haughton Hunt Todd of Hollis, died peacefully in her daughter’s home on Saturday, February 18, at the age of 102½.

She was born on July 15, 1909 in Atlantic City, NJ, and raised in New York City.

In 1931, she received a BS degree in economics from Cornell University where she was president of the Tri Delta sorority and a Masters in Education from Michigan State University in 1964.

She met her husband, Stanton Wesley Todd, Jr. in NYC. After a six month courtship, mostly by mail, they were married at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in 1935 and moved to Stanton’s hometown, Grand Rapids.

Rosemary was a member of the Grand Rapids Jr. League and president of the East Grand Rapids PTA and the Butterworth and Blodgett hospital guilds. She was a long time docent at the Grand Rapids Art Museum, an active member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. She traveled the world, loved books and enjoyed golf at Kent Country Club.

A widow at age 90, Rosemary moved to Summit, NJ. At 93, she moved to Hillcrest Terrace in Manchester before residing with her daughter in Hollis.

Last June, Rosemary attended her 80th Cornell reunion, the first 80th celebrated by Cornell. Covered by the Associated Press, she was seen on Good Morning America, The Today Show and interviewed for radio shows and newspapers across the country becoming an overnight celebrity.

Mrs. Todd was predeceased by her husband of 63 years and two sisters and brothers. She is survived by her children: Rosemary Todd Clough of Hollis, NH; Sally Todd Solmssen (Hans), of Summit, NJ and Stanton Wesley Todd, III – “Tony” (Gail) of Winnetka, IL, 12 cherished grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Memorial celebrations will be held in Hollis on May 12.
