Bedford reverend serves as interim rector at St. Andrew’s

St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Manchester welcomed the Rev. William S. Gannon, of Bedford, as interim rector July 29.

The Rev. Daniel Collier left the church July 15.

Gannon has served churches in the New Hampshire Episcopal Diocese, the Diocese of New York and the Diocese of Newark, N.J. He has been a teacher and headmaster of several private schools, as well as a New York City businessman.

He grew up in Chester. An alumnus of Pinkerton Academy, he graduated from Norwich University, Northfield, Vt., in 1958 and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Army Signal Corps. Four years later, he received two graduate degrees from the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas.

In school and throughout his life, Gannon has been a professional jazz musician, playing the trombone and the double bass. He currently plays with the New Hampshire National Guard Alumni Band.

Since retiring to Bedford with his wife, Barbara, he has continued to serve churches mostly in the diocese of New Hampshire. The Gannons have four grown children and seven grandchildren.

St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church is at 100 N. Main St., Manchester. The service of the Eucharist is offered at 9 a.m. Sundays.

The church thrift shop is open 8 a.m.-noon Saturday mornings, and the food pantry is open alternate Tuesday mornings. The church also offers various AA meetings. For more information, call the parish office at 622-8632.
