Police: Man passed out while driving

MANCHESTER – A Milford man was arrested Thursday, June 1, after police said they found him passed out in a running vehicle with a young child in the back seat and syringes on the floor.

Benjamin Philbrick, 34, reportedly passed out while taking a right turn in his 2013 Ford Explorer from Queen City Avenue onto Second Street, witnesses told police around 4:30 p.m.

Police said there was a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the vehicle when they arrived. Officers reported finding two needles in the car, one filled with a brown liquid believed to be heroin and the other on the floor near the child.

The child was unharmed, and was placed in the custody of a family member.

Philbrick was arrested and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated for operating under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol with a passenger younger than 16. He was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child and placed on a 72-hour hold for probation and parole.
