Leaders help enhance student success in area

MILFORD – Milford High School is working with multiple community champions to enhance student success.

Alene Candles headquarters is located in Milford. Heidi Ebol, the human resource director, has spearheaded six internship placements within their organization, including those in computer science, environmental engineering and chemical engineering.

Ebol has been heavily involved in Milford High School’s STEM Activity Nights, which are geared toward fourth- through sixth-grade students in order to open their eyes to academics and careers in science, technology, engineering and math.

The second champion recognized by Milford is Mike Rasmussen, vice president of commercial loans at Granite Bank. Rasmussen has been a strong voice in the Greater Souhegan Valley regarding the promotion of work-based learning opportunities for students at Milford High School.

Mike leads the effort in organizing and promoting the Milford Rotary Interscholastic Interview competition, which has students compete in a mock employment position where a panel of community professionals review resumes, evaluate letters of application and judge interviewing skills.

Lastly, Monarch Instrument has supported and facilitated internship placements for Milford High School students throughout the Milford and Amherst communities.

Shari Marston is the human resource manager and has been instrumental in identifying and connecting with professionals from a variety of industries to support student job shadows, presentations at student Career Days and other events.

Being heavily involved in tying academics with real-world experiences for six years, Marston has impacted the lives of students in ways that just cannot be quantified.
