Drama club returns

WILTON – The Wilton-Lyndeborough Cooperative Middle/High School Drama Club returned to the stage on Friday and Saturday, with a production of “Peter and the Starcatcher.”

It has been four years since the last production because of a lack of a director. This ear, Melodie Jones, choreographer for many of the school’s musical productions, agreed to take on drama. She was assisted by Assistant Principal Sarah Edmunds.

Edmunds holds a masters’ degree in theater arts and said last fall the revival of the club was one of her goals.

The play is basically a prequel to “Peter Pan,” explaining how Peter got all of his powers.

The cast was mostly middle school, from grades six through nine.

After some glitches – such as having to replace cast members in mid-preparation – and four months of rehearsals, the show went on to an enthusiastic audience.

There will be only one production this year, Jones said, but they are planning a more extensive program for next year, building interest in the program. There are already some plans in place.
