LYNDEBOROUGH – Work has begun on creating a picnic area near the Putnam Pond boat launch off Cemetery Road. Selectman Fred Douglas and members of the Highway Department recently removed dead and dying trees and cleared an area under the trees to the right of the parking circle.

Future work includes grading and adding gravel to the access road, parking area, and the launch site itself. The driveway is to be graded, roadsides mowed, and brush removed.

The area is part of the Putnam Pond Conservation Area and will be named in honor of former Selectman Lee Mayhew.
