‘Pop-Up’ Art Gallery Set for Amherst Art Hub

AMHERST – Art will temporarily ‘pop’ at Gallery 46, 46 Route 101A from Feb. 20 – 23.

With nine featured artists on board, organizer and CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Cindy Lee Loranger explained the concept of the four-day pop-up art show.

“They’re very common,” she said. “They happen all over the country. In most cases, people will look for an empty location, such as a store front, and then they work with a group of artists and do an art show for a few days, or a week or a month. In our case it’s four days.”

The show will also feature an art auction of ten paintings, with 100% of the proceeds to benefit CASA. (People can bid online at www.32auctions.com/PopUpArtShowforaCause, or they can come into the gallery and bid. Additionally, each artist has agreed to donate 10% of each painting sold.  There will also have CASA donation envelopes for those who just want to donate.)

Loranger said the key to pop-ups is there is always a time limit involved.

Featured artists include Gallery 46 members Karen Bruson, Jeanne Pierce, Elouise Lane Quadros, Helene Levasseur, Jo-Jo Clark, Cindy Lee Loranger, Beverly Melle, and Steve Huntley and CASA’s Director of Development Suzanne Lenz.

An artists’ reception will be held Sunday, Feb. 23, from 2-4 p.m. and a representative from CASA will be there to speak about the work the organization does to help ensure victimized children have the opportunity to grow up in safe, nurturing, permanent homes.

Loranger added that the artists are “pretty excited, as this event will introduce them into a different affiliation with the art world.”

“This will allow them to be exposed to a new community of people,” she said. “And my plan is to do more Art Pop-Ups for a cause in surrounding areas.”

As an artist herself, Loranger said she’s always painted and likes representing a cause or a volunteer.

“I became a CASA just about a year ago and felt that was an extremely incredible cause,” she said.
