Milford Birth Cottage welcomes first baby of new year

MILFORD – The staff at the Birth Cottage, located at 4 Prosect St., brought little Carlie Marie Cavagnaro into the world at 7:29 a.m. on January 1, 2021.

Elated parents Brittney and Kyle Cavagnaro of Nashua, said their new daughter, their first child, was perfectly healthy, weighing 7 pounds, 9 ½ ounces and measured 22 ¼ inches.

Brittney Cavagnaro said she and her husband thought the Birth Cottage in Milford best suited their needs.

“I really wanted to make sure that with COVID-19, that we chose the right place to have the baby,” she said. “I really wanted my husband to be there with me.”

Cavagnaro said that her husband was permitted to be at many of the appointments at the Birth Cottage leading up to the labor, which was also a factor in the couple choosing the Milford locale.

“I did a lot of research on options that I didn’t know were out there and found the Milford Birth Cottage,” Brittney Cavagnaro said. “It was the right fit for what our birth plan was.”

Cavagnaro said her daughter’s birth was a fast one.

“I’m glad it didn’t last 48 hours,” she said with a laugh.

Kyle Cavagnaro is taking two weeks off with paternity leave but as Brittney explained, he has been working from home during the pandemic.

“He’ll be in his office but it will be nice that he is home so that we can spend time together throughout the day,” she said. “For lunch or walks or breaks here and there.”

The Cavagnaros have been married since 2017, though the two began dating in 2008. The couple’s families are local.

“I was born and raised in Nashua,” Brittney Cavagnaro said. “So our families got to see the baby.”

Carlie was due on Jan. 3 and Brittney said that she wasn’t experiencing any contractions on New Year’s Eve, though her water broke at 10:30 p.m. that night.

“I was feeling good, initially on New Year’s Eve,” she said. “We thought we still had more time but the whole thing happened so quickly.”

The Birth Cottage in Milford provided the couple with all pre-natal care for the couple and did the first post-birth appointment on Saturday, Jan. 2.

“It escalated so quickly,” Brittney Cavagnaro said. “So, we ended up leaving and going to the Birth Cottage and got there at 6:15 in the morning of the first. The baby was born at 7:29 a.m. and we were home by 11:30 a.m. It was pretty amazing.”
