Area man charged in Boston murder

BOSTON – Police have taken into custody Ren A. Rodgers, a 23-year-old Hollis resident, in connection with the weekend stabbing death of another man at a North End hotel not far from the TD Garden.

Rodgers, whose street address wasn’t provided, was arrested within hours of the stabbing, which police say occurred about 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

They said officers working District A-1, the downtown area where the Garden and North Station are located, were called to the Hotel Indigo at 280 Friend St. for a report of a stabbing.

The victim, whose identity wasn’t provided, was found suffering from an apparent stab wound by arriving officers. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased, police said.

Police didn’t say whether Rodgers and the victim knew each other, or provide any details regarding the circumstances that led to the alleged stabbing.

They did say that investigators are “actively reviewing the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident,” and asked that anyone with any information contact homicide detectives at 617-343-4470.

They also said Rodgers was expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court within the next day or so.

According to Nashua Patch, Rodgers was arrested four years ago in Portsmouth on a burglary charge, which was later dropped.

Shortly after that, according to Patch, he was charged in Amherst with possession of a controlled drug and unlawful possession of alcohol.
