Plea in sexual-assault case spares Wilton man prison

Austin Fredette, 21, of Wilton

NASHUA – Prosecutors in the sexual-assault case of Wilton resident Austin Fredette agreed Monday that the now 22-year-old man be sentenced to suspended prison time, while also agreeing to drop two other related offenses.

Fredette, at his plea and sentencing hearing at Hillsborough County Superior Court South, entered a guilty plea to one count of felonious sexual assault in exchange for a 3 1/2 to 7 year prison term, all suspended for five years on the condition he abides by all the terms of the sentencing agreement.

He was also placed on probation for a periof of two years.

Fredette was initially charged with three offenses when the charges were filed in April 2019, according to court documents. He was indicted in June 2019 on all three charges.

Two of them – both for aggravated felonious sexual assault without penetration – victim under age 13 – are special felonies that prosecutors agreed to drop as part of the plea agreement.

Fredette is accused of sexually assaulting by allegedly inappropriately touching a young girl between June 1 and Aug. 30, 2016, in Wilton, according to the indictments.

Among the conditions of sentencing is the requirement that Fredette register as a sex offender for life.

He is also prohibited from having any contact with the victim or members of her immediate family, and he cannot have any unsupervised contact with any person under age 16, according to the orders.

Fredette must also participate meaningfully in, and complete, any counseling, treatment or educational programs as directed by correctional personnel or his probation or parole officer, and he is ordered to be of good behavior and comply with all sentencing terms.
