‘Wild ride’ that led to Milford crash under investigation

MILFORD – Police continue to investigate the single-vehicle crash that occurred during what witnesses described as a “wild ride” by an out-of-control vehicle in the Jones Road area.

The driver, a woman whose name police didn’t provide, sustained injuries that aren’t believed to be life-threatening. She was treated at the scene then transported via Milford ambulance to a local hospital.

Whether the incident was caused by the driver suffering a medical incident or if her injuries were sustained in the crash remain part of the investigation.

Calls came in to police, fire and ambulance personnel Friday morning reporting an SUV had crashed into the V.I.P. automotive store on Jones Road, and that it ended up some distance from the store.

Arriving crews located the vehicle more than 500 feet from V.I.P., at which time medical personnel began tending to the woman’s injuries.

Two of the witnesses who watched the incident unfold described “a wild ride” in which the SUV traveled over grassy areas and plants and occasionally bounced off of curbings as it headed toward a People’s United Bank branch.

The area through which the vehicle traveled is between Jones Road and Route 101, just west of Phelan Road.

One witness said she believes the car had just exited a car wash next door to the V.I.P. store and across Jones road from the Market Basket store when it began traveling erratically.

Police said no other vehicles were involved, and no pedestrians were in the area during the incident.

The damage to the SUV, which was towed from the scene, included the entire drivers side front wheel and part of the suspension system snapping off as it came to rest.
