Putnam Retires

Dick Putnam’s retirement ended an era. There has been a Putnam’s Clothing on Main Street since 1934. He was the third generation in the business following his father and great-uncle. On Monday, the town officially said good-bye with a grand party in Main Street Park sponsored by Main Street Association. Dozens of friends gathered to wish him well and enjoy the good fellowship long associated with his business. Alison Meltzer presented gifts on their behalf. Selectman Kermit Williams spoke of Putnam’s long association with the Lions Club. Dick is looking forward to retirement, he said, it has been a long pleasant journey. His store will become an art gallery. Above, Alison Meltzer, representing Wilton Main Street Association, presented Putnam with a card signed by many friends and well-wishers during a retirement party in Main Street Park.
