Board of Selectmen approve reservoir parking area signs

WILTON – The Board of Selectmen has taken “the first step” in the upgrade of the New Reservoir parking area.

On July 19, Selectman Matt Fish presented his proposals for signage, which were slightly amended before being passed along to Road Agent Brian Adams.

The signs will be “a kiosk kind,” Fish said. His proposed wording included: no over night parking, carry in-carry out, open dawn to dusk.” Fire Chief Don Nourse suggested adding, “No fires, no camping.”

Fish said he and Adams will tour the site, decide where the sign would be located, and determine how to clean the proposed lot, which will hold 16 spaces. Fish said the Conservation Commission was interested in adding trails which would open up more of the area to walkers.

The area will remain “passive recreation,” walking, fishing, birdwatching.

Resident Ralph Bushman said, “People aren’t observing the No Entry sign on Isaac Frye highway and suggested two signs, one from each direction at the ‘Y’ intersection saying “One Way Do Not Enter.”

In other business on Monday, the Board looked at a proposal for repairing the Frog Pond dam and referred it to town counsel.

Lease agreements were signed for the new fire truck and the trade-in agreement.

Ambulance Director Sherry Miller asked that two bills be sent to a collection agency, which was approved.

The board and Police Chief Eric Olesen came closer to an agreement on recruiting bonuses and a pay new pay scale.

Administrator Paul Branscombe said a “Good Stuff Shed” at the recycling center would be discussed at the next meeting and there is “an overwhelming demand for its return.”

Residents have been invited to the center to plant donated flowers.

Matt Fish offered thanks to the Highway Department for their handling of the recent rainstorm. He also said the town should have a Parks and Recreation Director.

The next regular meeting of the board was set for Monday, august2, at 6 p.m.
