Hitchiner to invest $1 million in renewable solar energy

MILFORD – Hitchiner Manufacturing Co., the premier industrial supplier of complete-to-print, high-volume, complex thin-wall investment castings and fully finished casting-based subassemblies and components, has announced the installation of a 510-kilowatt array on-site at one of its Milford manufacturing facilities.

Working with ReVision Energy, Hitchiner said via a statement that the array represents a $1 million investment in cost-competitive renewable energy. The array will produce more than 625,000 kilowatt-hours of renewable energy every year at a cost of less than $0.04 per kilowatt-hour. This will save Hitchiner more than $3.5 million over the array’s lifespan, and reduce Hitchiner’s carbon footprint by more than 665,000 pounds annually.

Investing in cost-competitive renewable energy is consistent with Hitchiner’s sustainable growth strategy in the state. In 2018, Hitchiner announced plans to invest $50 million in a new 85,000 square foot facility that will eventually create up to 85 new jobs in Milford, NH. The facility was completed in 2019, and to date has already created 70 new positions, with plans to add more than the 85 positions originally projected as the business grows.

One of the major hurdles in deciding to make that investment in New Hampshire were the state’s electrical costs, which are among the highest in the nation.

“If we are to continue to grow here beyond this plant, we will need to keep working together to make New Hampshire a more attractive and competitive state in which to invest,” Hitchiner chairman and CEO John H. Morison III said. “We need to… perhaps most critically… develop competitive and reliable sources of commercial energy so that businesses, and manufacturers in particular, can grow the state’s economy.”

Hitchiner’s $1 million investment in solar is just one step in the company’s plans to continue working towards developing competitive and sustainable sources of energy in the state of New Hampshire.

Hitchiner’s leadership looks forward to collaborating with New Hampshire business and industry leaders along with local, state, and federal representatives to develop innovative solutions for New Hampshire’s energy challenges.
