GIS program discussed

WILTON – The town has used Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for land mapping for several years, but are now looking into their use of and relationship with that company.

“The Budget Committee has concerns about costs going forward,” Town Manager Nick Germain said. “The town has been paying for maintenance on it.”

Selectman Kermit Williams said, “initially, we bought four licenses but only one was used. It was purchased for the stormwater management project. Grants were obtained to map the sewer system. The GIS work was done by (Nashua Regional Planning Commission). We need to figure out the total cost for a license and maintenance.”

That figure was said to be $1.600.

Chairman Kellie-Sue Boissonnault said, “We have $1,800 to use and that should be enough.”

It was agreed that more information was needed and in the meantime Land Use Consultant Michele Decoteau would continue to work with NRPC and the sewer information would be added to the town map.

In other business on Monday, Jan. 24, the board approved a request from Four Corners Farm to install a solar array on non-agricultural land. Approval was needed because of LCIP funding of the farm. The conservation easement requires that no farmland be used.

Work on the Good Stuff Shed at the Recycling Center is progressing. Selectman Matt Fish questioned its location and said he was concerned about disposal of landfill material left at the shed.

Boissonnault said the committee is preparing a plan for the operation and to wait until that is complete.

A new Director of Piu0blic Works will be selected within the next couple of weeks. Current Director Brian Adams plans to step down from the position.

Fish said the forestry work at the New Reservoir is “coming along well” and said he was “pleased with the care being taken by the logging company and the trail system is fantastic.”

The COVID and mask mandates for employees and visitors to the Town Hall will remain in place until current cases are lower.

The next meeting of the board was set for Monday, Feb. 7, 6 p.m., in the Town Hall Courtroom.
