Woman’s Caucus show opens at Creative Ventures

MILFORD – Creative Ventures Gallery welcomes the Central Massachusetts Chapter of the Woman’s Caucus for Art’s “New Spring Work” exhibit that will be on display in the gallery through April 30. The opening for the show will be Saturday, April 9 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Gallery on 411 Nashua St. in Milford.

Vibrant displays of color lead the viewer from visuals of the ordinary into realms where one’s imagination can run free. These works represent diversity of thought among these five artists that enhances the viewer’s experience.

The most realistic work is that by Joanne Stowell of Ashburton. Although skilled in many media, her oil paintings capture bits of reality not typically glorified, and she walks a fine line between chaos and the mundane quality of everyday life. Each piece tells its own story. She holds an MFA in Visual Arts, and her work represents an unfiltered view of reality.

The work of Susan Wadsworth from Rindge creates energy and form through the use of dark accents juxtaposed against a variety of color. Newly retired as a humanity professor from Fitchburg State University, she aims to generate work that is not only peaceful but also energetic.

Abstraction becomes more evident in the photographic work of Ruth Nelson from Watertown, allowing form and color to be observable in a new way through the lens of the viewer. Her background in computer security contributes to her ability to see the world in a different way.

In her new series of smaller canvases C. M. Judge from Fitchburg pushes form to create a pathway to a new place. A graduate of MIT, Judge is fascinated with the creative process. Originally a traditional artist, she has grown into an appreciation of the physical confluence of the spirit.

The Chapter’s newest member is Shara Osgood, also from Fitchburg, uses form to create a framework for a mystical story. A master painter who also creates body art, she has been dubbed “She Who Paints Souls on Skin.”

The Central Massachusetts Chapter is part of the National Woman’s Caucus for Art founded in 1972 as a membership organization. It encompasses broad areas of art and is multicultural in nature.
