Chamberlin named interim superintendent for 2022-2023 school year

Steven Chamberlin, now the assistant superintendent, will serve as the interim superintendent of schools for SAU 39 beginning June 10 through the 2022-2023 school year.

The SAU 39 Board announced the decision Monday.

Adam Steel announced his resignation as superintendent of schools in Amherst and Mont Vernon on March 11, effective at the end of this school year. Upon accepting his resignation, the board said Steel would remain during the summer to help with the transition to a new superintendent.

Chamberlin, set to earn a salary of $159,270 as interim superintendent, will return to his role as assistant superintendent at the end of the 2022-23 school year.

“I am humbled and grateful for this opportunity,” Chamberlin said. “I have enjoyed working with and learning from the members of this educational community. I feel fortunate to be part of a community that places such a high value on public education. I look forward to the important work ahead.”

According to the press release, Chamberlin worked for the Hopkinton School District for more than 22 years in various administrative roles including assistant principal, principal, and as the superintendent of schools for his last 12 years in that district.
