Grant approved

LYNDEBOROUGH – A grant of up to $40,000 from the Local Equipment Matching Grant program has been approved, according to Town Administrator Russ Boland. Funds can be used for firefighting equipment, he told the selectmen at their regular meeting on Wednesday, May 4, as well as security cameras.

“But they rejected our plan for upgrading wiring at Citizens’ Hall.”

In other business, Boland said the Memorial Day account would be overspent by about $500. “The Artillery Company is planning a parade this year and the cost of renting horses (to pull the cannon) has gone up.” The line item has been cut because of COVID and the parade cancelled the past two years.

The select Board had no objection.

A problem has been discovered at the Center Hall. Apparently a sill at the rear of the building needs replacement. The floor in the space on one side of the stage was called “a little spongy,” and access to the backstage area will be restricted until the extent of the damage is determined and repairs made. The hall, built in 1845, is close to a ledge and the problem probably caused by water. It was suggested that a gutter also be installed.

Charlie Post has been named Planning Board representative to Nashua Regional Planning Commission, and the Capital Improvements Plan Committee.

The Road Department will start summer hours, four ten-hour days, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., next week.

The next meeting of the board is set for Wednesday, May 18, 6 p.m., in the town office.
