Wilton Historical Society seeking members; meeting quarterly
WILTON – The Historical Society rooms at the library are again open, but the society has not yet recovered from the COVID lockdown. Because they have few active members, at their annual meeting on June 30, it was decided to meet quarterly instead of monthly to allow time to prepare programs.
David Potter and Stanley Young were re-elected President and vice-president, with Marcia Potter as treasurer, Joan Tuttle secretary, and Jane Bergeron curator/archivist. New members are always welcome.
Annual dues remain at $10 per year, but will increase to $15 next year.
The board approved the purchase of PastPerfect software for the digitizing and cataloging of the Society’s artifacts, estimated at over 2000 pictures, documents, and items such as furniture, clothing and housewares. Several historically important pieces were received during the shut down which are now being archived.
Bergeron displayed a collection of pictures of high school and junior high graduations prior to the mid-1950s, as well as several team pictures.
The pictures are part of a large collection given to the Society by Dick Putnam which is being cataloged.
The Historical Rooms, located on the top floor of the library, are open on Thursday afternoons from 2 to 5 p.m. The public is invited to visit, ask questions, and learn the history of the town.
The next meeting of the Society will be held in September.
