Wilton Board of Selectmen vote to accept surplus from MACC

WILTON – Following a short public hearing, the Board of Selectmen voted to accept some unanticipated revenue, $23,869, surplus budget money from Milford Area Communications Center (MACC). At the end of their fiscal year, the balance is divided among members.

Select Board Chairman Kermit Williams said would have “preferred they use the money to upgrade their equipment.”

Asked where the money would be used, Williams said “it goes into the unreserved fund balance.”

It was suggested that a line be placed in the budget, anticipating such funds, and earmark them for the police department.

Police Chief Eric Olesen said, “If we had an avenue to use those funds, we could use it to upgrade our equipment.”

Williams said MACC could retain funds if they have an agreement,” and said they had retained some for Federal Hill.

While it is impossible to know what the yearly return would be, the selectmen agreed to discuss it with the budget committee.

The Board also adopted the new Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination (IDDE) ordinance, which refers to illegally or improperly discharging water into the sewer or storm drains. Enforcement of the ordinance is still under discussion, Finding a person to do such inspections will be difficult.

The ordinance was required under the state MS 4 (Municipal Separate Storm Sewer

System), which the town has been part of for the past seven years.. The ordinance can be found on the town website.

It was also noted that the state has reimbursed the town most of their 80 percent of the cots of repairing/rebuilding the Stagecoach Road bridge.
