Plan accepted
WILTON – On Oct. 11, the Zoning Board of Adjustment approved a plan for converting the former Sacred Heart Church on Maple Street into apartments and an office. The plan is almost identical to one presented to, and accepted by, the board in 2017.
Because that plan was not completed within the required time frame, the plan had to be presented again. A site walk was held on Oct.8.
The plan converts the former rectory into two three-bedroom apartments and creates three apartments in the lower level of the church building. The upper level will become an office for the owner, Christina Rubio-Sprague.
A variance was required because the zoning ordinance does not allow more than one dwelling unit, more than one dwelling, or commercial uses, in that area.
The new plan provides sufficient parking on the site.
The board stipulated no signage except for parking and that exterior lighting remain as it is.
The church was built in 1888 and closed by the Diocese in 2010. The owners have stated that the exterior would not be changed.
