Community Day returns

LYNDEBOROUGH – The last Community Day was held before COVID, sponsored by the Wilton-Lyndeborough Woman’s Club. They did not revive it afterward for a variety of reasons and no other organization stepped up to take their place.

This year, the town’s Heritage Commission and the Lyndeborough Historical Society will join together to hold the event on Sunday, Aug. 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on the grounds of the former Town Hall in Lyndeborough Center.

“We need to get community spirit back,” Stephanie Roper said. She is a member of both sponsors. “We need something to bring the town together again.”

She noted the lack of any central organization since the elementary school combined with Wilton.

Sunday’s event is designed as a “fun day for the whole family.”

The activities include live entertainment, the band “Pop Farmers” will entertain during lunch, which will be a fund-raiser for the Volunteer Fire Department offering burgers and not dogs. Enjoy lunch under the big tent.

Other activities include “Touch-a-Truck,” fire and highway department vehicles plus the ambulance and a farm tractor.

The Lafayette Artillery will be present in uniform to answer questions and discuss their long history.

Children’s crafts will be offered in the Town Hall sponsored by the J.A. Tarbell Library, and games such as corn hole and ring-toss with prizes will be set up outside.

A farmers’ market will feature – so far -jams, jellies, soaps, vegetables and honey. Crafters are invited to set up tables. There is no charge for participation. Contact Louis Rota at 978-289-3828, or louis.rota@yahoo.com, for information.

The new History of Lyndeborough will be available.

Donations toward the purchase of the former Congregational Church building gratefully accepted.
