Learning to slow down and enjoy life – a ‘Process Over Product’ approach

MANCHESTER – Studio 550 Art Center is adding new 1-day experiences for adults and families on weekends! In addition to the 8-week session drawing and painting classes for adults offered all year, Studio 550 is adding “Parent & Child” watercolor painting workshops, sensory play for littles, and adult watercolor workshops.

Mattea Schevey will be leading these workshops for families and youth. She has spent many years as an Early Childhood Educator, and understands the importance of teaching each student (young or old) as an individual. As a nurturing and enthusiastic teacher, Mattea can meet students wherever their skill level and interests lie.

Family Watercolor Workshops will be held monthly on Fridays at 4:30pm, with the theme for the painting classes changing each month. All materials are included for $20 a painter. “Under the sea”, “Pumpkin Patch” and “Candy” are just some to look forward to! It is open to youth and their adult friends ages 7 and up.

The Sensory Play Hour is geared towards littles aged 2-6 years old. The time of 11-12pm was picked to (hopefully) avoid nap time, and it will be set up with different stations so youth can pick the activities that interest them most. Slime, painting, and shaving cream (the stuff you don’t want messing up your own home!) are all potential projects. The cost is $15 per participant.

This same mentality of “Process over Product” follows through to the adult programs.

This includes 1-day watercolor workshops for adults and teens, with a new theme every month, as well as weekly recurring 8-week classes for introductory drawing, watercolor painting, acrylic painting and soft pastels.

The focus is on exploration of the materials and finding joy in the process of creating with them. Mini-masterpieces emerge through the process!

All 1-day workshops and classes are open to complete beginners through intermediate.

Anyone who wants to try it out before investing in their own materials, or anyone looking for something fun and different to do with a friend, then the 1-day workshops are a great place to start. Anyone wanting a more thorough exploration of the media should join a full session class.

The full schedule, class offerings, and prices for either adult or family/youth workshops can be found online at https://www.550arts.com under “classes”.
