Circus Arts Camp offers unique summer experience

MILFORD – The Flying Gravity Circus, a nonprofit circus arts organization, is offering its Silver Lining Circus Camp for kids ages 6 through 14 this summer.

Junior (ages 6-8) and Youth (ages 9-14) camps will be held at the First Congregational Church, 10 Union St. for four one-week sessions, from June 23 through July 18. This program utilizes coaches who are trained to accommodate individual campers whether they are new to circus or experienced.

Junior Camp, for the younger children, includes playful circus skills, games, outdoor time, crafts, stories and a Friday show-and-tell for parents and friends. Youth camp encompasses acrobatics, unicycling, clowning, juggling and a Friday show. All skill levels are welcome.

“It is a delight to see young children and teens have fun and gain confidence in themselves as they work together to create a show while building their own physical strength and competency,” said Jackie Davis, who founded the camp in 1996.

Circus benefits bodies through fun and challenging circus skills that can increase physical fitness (strength, endurance) and motor fitness (coordination, balance, reaction time). Acquiring circus skills offers many opportunities for campers to have successful experiences no matter what their capabilities and learning styles, as well as opportunities for pure fun and healthy socialization.

Limited financial aid is available for families who cannot afford full tuition. The deadline to apply is June 5. For more information about the Silver Lining Circus Camp, including financial assistance, go to www.flyinggravitycircus.org/silver-lining-circus-camp.
