Arrest made in Milford cold case murder

MILFORD – Douglas Herlihy, 39, of Saugus, Mass., was taken into custody on June 17 for allegedly murdering his father, 50-year-old Milford resident Paul Herlihy, in August 2003.

According to the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office, Paul Herlihy died of blunt force trauma at his Nashua Street home sometime between Aug. 23-27, 2003. His death was later determined to be a homicide.

Herlihy, who was 17 at the time, has been charged with second degree murder and being a fugitive from justice.

He is currently being held without bail pending his arraignment in Essex County Superior Court. Following the arraignment, all legal proceedings will be transferred to New Hampshire.

Under state law, if convicted, Herlihy could face up to life in prison.
