Still life painting exhibit on display at New Hampshire Antique Co-op
MILFORD — The New Hampshire Antique Co-op is presenting The American Still Life: Two Centuries of Timeless Tradition, an art exhibit celebrating the enduring beauty of still life painting from the 19th century to the present day.
The exhibit will be on display until Dec. 31 in the Co-op’s Tower Gallery and Upstairs Gallery, 323 Elm St. in Milford.
A wine and cheese reception will be held on Sept. 7 from 1-3 p.m. in the Upstairs Gallery. All are welcome to come enjoy an afternoon of art, antiques and camaraderie.
The American Still Life: Two Centuries of Timeless Tradition exhibition captures more than 200 years of the enduring appeal of American still life paintings, from 19th century old-master style floral arrangements and fruit-laden table tops to trompe l’oeil (“deceive the eye”) works, as well as contemporary interpretations.
The exhibition showcases 19th century painters such as Severin Roesen, William Harnett, Levi Wells Prentice and Andrew John Henry Way as well as early-20th century impressionists like Dines Carlsen, Hermann Dudley Murphy and George Loftus Noyes. Contemporary artists include Stephen Motyka and James Aponovich, who continue the still life traditions today.
