Candia woman charged with DUI with child in car

HOOKSETT – Rebecca Santa, 47, of Candia, was taken into custody on Oct. 31 for allegedly driving under the influence with a five-year-old child in the car.

According to the Hooksett Police Department, at 11:47 a.m., Officer Logan Gardyne responded to a report indicating that a vehicle was driving erratically. A short time later, Gardyne located Santa’s vehicle in a McDonald’s drive-thru lane.

Upon seeing Gardyne, Santa attempted to hide an open bottle of vodka in her purse. Although she initially denied consuming alcohol, Santa later admitted to drinking vodka. According to the results of a breathalyzer test, Santa’s blood alcohol content was 0.31. The BAC limit in New Hampshire is 0.08.

The child who was traveling with Santa was unharmed and was picked up by a family member.

Santa has been charged with aggravated DUI, endangering the welfare of a child, DUI and having an open container of alcohol. She was released on a $1,000 cash bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in Hooksett District Court on Nov. 13.

Under state law, if convicted, Santa could face up to two years in prison, up to $5,350 in fines and having her driver’s license suspended for up to four years.
