WARNER – Marriage proposals are always memorable, but for Alexis Hardy, 29, of Sandown, there was another surprise in store for the afternoon of July 11 — one that her boyfriend, Timothy Dupere, had not planned.
While hiking up Mt. Kearsarge, Hardy suffered a lower leg injury on Barlow Trail, a primary summit route on the northwest side of the mountain.
Rescuers carried Hardy to the 2,937-foot summit and back down as she was unable to put any weight on her injured leg. Conservation officers were assisted by the Warner Fire Department and Hopkinton Ambulance.
Once the rescue was safely underway, Dupere continued with his plan and asked Hardy to marry him.
She was later taken to Concord Hospital for treatment.
