Unusual friend found in backyard
It was a typical July day, 2011, feeding birds in the yard, when suddenly I heard a loud screeching noise coming from the yard. To my surprise, my cat was looking at a one-day-old baby squirrel which still had its umbilical cord attached. I took it and tried to find its mother, but no nest and no mother.
I started my 13-week journey with my Wooki. I raised her and let her free after training her to build a nest inside her box. She stayed on my arm and shoulder and I tickled her belly before she went into her box at night. She went for rides in the car to visit family because I had feedings I couldn’t miss. I let her go and built her a home up in a maple tree just outside our kitchen window.
She visits daily and now has babies of her own, in the barn! She is a joy!
