Authorities identify Merrimack drowning victim

Two days after authorities responded to a drowning in the Swift River in the White Mountains, they identified the victim Tuesday as Hardik Shah of Merrimack.

Shah, 31, was visiting the White Mountain National Forest on Sunday afternoon with his wife and several friends when he slipped off a rock into the river, off the Kancamagus Highway in Albany.

Rainfall had made for slick conditions in the area, and a strong white water current quickly swept Shah downstream, according to officers New Hampshire Fish and Game officers.

After a day-long search, officers found his body Monday afternoon. They released the victim’s name Tuesday after making contact with family members.

Shah’s family members couldn’t be reached for this story. Property records indicate Shah and his wife moved to Merrimack last year. They lived in Manchester prior to that, and have lived in Florida and Texas in the past year.
