State land trapping lottery now open

CONCORD – Trappers interested in trapping on state-owned or state-managed lands can now apply for the 2016 New Hampshire State Lands Trapping Lottery.

Applications are available at www.huntnh.com/hunting/trapping-state-lands. Lottery applications must be received at New Hampshire Fish and Game Department headquarters in Concord by Monday, Sept. 12.

Every even-numbered year, the Fish and Game Department’s Wildlife Division issues permits to trap on a wide variety of state and federally owned lands. These lands include those leased and owned by N.H. Fish and Game, state forest and state park lands, dam sites administered by the N.H. Department of Environmental Services, select properties owned by other agencies of the state, Army Corps of Engineers flood control areas and White Mountain National Forest lands.

All lands available for trapping are assigned for a two-year period through a computerized lottery process. Properties with large acreages are broken into non-overlapping trapping units. A single trapping permit is issued for each trapping unit.

Permits will be mailed the week of Sept. 19 and will be valid from Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2018.

Properties that remain available after the lottery will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis as applications are received.
