Ice Finally!

Merrimack Lions was finally able to hold their Fishing Derby on February 23 after several years of cancelling due to unsafe ice. For the first time in three years the ice was deep enough to stand on. Eighty to 90 children participated receiving help with getting the worms on the hook by Tom Beaulieu, one of our newest members. Paul Pearsall, the chairperson, started early in the morning drilling holes and getting the fishing rods ready. Hot chocolate and chicken soup was served. The event ended at 3:00 pm with a presentation of awards for “First Fish Caught, Most Fish Caught, Largest Fish Caught, Most Challenging Catch, President’s Award and finally the “Rookie Award” that was a 3-way tie. Merrimack Lions is proud to work with the Parks and Recreation Department to make this town wide event a success.
