Coding for Kids at Nashua Community College teaches students between the ages of 11-18 how to code through video game development in an online, self-paced format.

Coding for Kids costs $99 per person for one year or $179 for up to three members of one family, and software downloads are free.

“It’s an accessible way to test out coding, so students can see if they are interested in exploring coding careers such as game design,” she said, “Middle and high school students want to test drive different areas without a huge commitment. This is a low-impact way for your student to see if coding is for them, and in their own environment.”

Why Coding?

Aside from traditional STEM roles, many other career paths require a basic coding literacy. “These are real skills they are learning, applicable skills. Learning to code also helps develop problem-solving skills and creativity.”

High school students have used the program to prepare for the Computer Science AP exam, and homeschool students incorporate it into their STEM curricula.

How Coding for Kids works: Students move through an interactive online curriculum that teaches them how to code their own computer games, websites, and apps through the correct structure and environment. The program has lessons at Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced level.
