MERRIMACK – The Amherst Town Band, a nonprofit group of more than 30 local musicians united in performing popular tunes for the public at various venues and private affairs, was showcased on Aug. 22 at Live Music Fridays, an ongoing program at The Biergarten events center at Anheuser-Busch on Daniel Webster Highway in Merrimack.

“Her mother is the tuba player,” noted Matt Hartnett of New Boston as wife Liz Hartnett hoisted the hefty brass instrument she played throughout high school and college. Their toddler Eva, resplendent in frothy princess attire, nestled in Matt’s arms as they enjoyed the concert led by conductor and band director Lisa Hansen of Merrimack.

“These events give Eva an opportunity to experience live music and she’s learning the sounds made by the different instruments,” Hartnett said.

The Amherst Town Band will be performing at Noon during an upcoming special event — the Nashua Historical Society at 5 Abbot St., is hosting on Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. a festival titled, “Heritage in the Heart of Nashua: A Celebration of Monuments, Music and Hidden History.”

A scavenger hunt, live music and refreshments from Soel Sistahs Cafe, Catering & Food Truck in Nashua are anticipated as a part of the 250th Anniversary of America commemoration at the Nashua Historical Society.

Hansen generated from her elevated platform an animated concert that had adults grooving in their seats and children dancing on the grassy perimeter of a big, white tent. Intermission was introduced with “America, the Beautiful.”

More information about the band, including membership information and a performance schedule is available online at amhersttownband.org.
